September Meeting | Writing to Process Emotions & Trauma

September 17 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for an evening with Ellen Stackable, Executive Director of Poetic Justice. She’ll discuss the power of writing to process experiences, emotions, and trauma, walk us through an exercise, and share how her non-profit teaches this process to incarcerated women through a powerful project.

Bio

Ellen Stackable is the Executive Director of Poetic Justice. While pursuing her master’s degree in Liberal Studies at the University of Oklahoma, she became aware of the issue of mass incarceration of women in Oklahoma. As an English teacher of twenty years, she knew the power of writing to transform lives, so she wanted to teach writing to incarcerated women. In March of 2014, Ellen helped start Poetic Justice, working with incarcerated women at the Tulsa County Jail.

Ellen believes in the inestimable worth of every person and this core value is integral to all of the Poetic Justice classes: both writing and art. Every Monday, you can find her at Eddie Warrior Correctional Center in Taft, Oklahoma, sharing life and healing with courageous women in orange.
