Mission Statement

The mission of Tulsa NightWriters is to provide a platform for writers of all levels and abilities to receive support, encouragement, and the tools to achieve their writing goals through a membership group open to all who wish to further their writing for publication, competition, or pleasure through informational and inspirational speakers, networking opportunities with writing and publishing professionals, and opportunities to achieve through local and state writing competitions and conferences.

Our Story

Tulsa NightWriters is the oldest writers club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. What began as an offshoot of the daytime Tuesday Writers, Tulsa NightWriters was started in the 1950s for people who worked. Unfortunately, the official history of this club was not recorded; however, author Peggy Fielding first visited the club in the 1970s, when members spent most of their time discussing grandchildren. Ms. Fielding then took the helm and changed the club’s course forever.

As a completely volunteer run organization, our members engage at various levels from serving on the board, helping plan events, to hosting critique groups.

Tulsa NightWriters includes writers of all ages and every genre, and from all walks of life. Our members write screen and stage plays, murder mysteries, science fiction, thrillers, romance, and every other genre imaginable.

The mission of Tulsa NightWriters for over sixty-five years has been to provide a platform for writers of all levels and abilities to receive support, encouragement, and the tools to achieve their writing goals, whether for publication or personal enjoyment through informational and inspirational speakers, networking opportunities with other writers and publishing professionals, help with book promotion, and opportunities to achieve through local, state, and national writing competitions and conferences.

What began as a social club has continued to grow with 2022 seeing our largest increase in membership and a new meeting space at the OSU Center for Poets & Writers. As we look ahead to the future we have now received our 501(c)3 nonprofit status (March 2023) and look forward to expanding our abilities to serve writers in Tulsa and throughout Oklahoma on their journey to publication!
